Snow day, art day.

The car was parked, the snow was deep (for Victoria), the wind was blowing and the paints were poured. No preschool, no Running Moms, no going anywhere. The first snow day of 2012.

Red, yellow, green, blue. So many possibilities. Haven chose a splishy-splashy style, while Sonja preferred to dab here and there and mix her colours together with purpose. She announced her next moves, telling me that red and green make brown and red and blue make purple. Haven was not allowed to paint Sonja's picture; strictly enforced, but she definitely tried.

Sonja: so calm, so focused, so engrossed in her painting.

Haven: so ...not any of those things.

Sonja barely moved and Haven couldn't stay still; their ages maybe, or just another difference between my girls. Either way, it was entertaining.

Paint, paint, paint. I could see Haven's little mind working: "I'm allowed to paint my paper, I'm not allowed to paint Sonja's paper... I'm not supposed to paint the walls, the dresser, Mama, the door, Jett. Hmmm. Well, the easel is where we all paint, so... Paint the easel? Mama's not saying no... Yay!"

In the end, both finished paintings were masterpieces. I'm their Mom, so I can say that.

Here's to snow days!
